What is EDRS? The Michigan Electronic Death Registration System (EDRS) is a web-based application used to register deaths in the state of Michigan. The system was piloted in Washtenaw and Jackson counties in 2010 and has rapidly expanded across the state. Today 82 of the 83 counties in Michigan have access to the EDR system. The system allows funeral directors, physicians, medical examiners, nursing homes, and hospitals to submit death records electronically, 24-hours a day.

The EDRS user community has reached about 3,000. In Michigan, EDRS use is not mandatory; user engagement is all voluntary. The near statewide adoption of the system speaks volumes on its value and usefulness. In order to remove barriers to adoption, the Michigan Division for Vital Records and Health Statistics has made the system free to use, and is providing free online and in-person trainings, as well as offering the required biometric scanner for free.

Why attend training? Training is the best way to get a full understanding of how to use the system and practice in a test environment. The in-person trainings provide you with an overview of the system, a demonstration of how it works, and a hands-on interactive portion in the EDRS test site.  Parking is free. Training is free. Trainings are from 9am to 3pm, lunch is provided.

If you require any additional training information, please visit the EDRS website: www.MichiganEDRS.org, or you can email [email protected].

If you have any questions about EDRS, please contact Jen Upton at 517-335-8840 or [email protected].
