Healthcare Leadership Academy Strengthens Clinicians’ Business Skills

The roles and responsibilities of physicians are changing at a dramatic pace. A host of evolving factors require physicians to learn and lead, including shifting from the autonomous practice of medicine to clinical coordination, patients using the internet to assess treatment decisions and quality of care, and financial risk and incentives for managing patient populations.

Developed by the Michigan Health & Hospital Association, the Michigan State University Eli Broad College of Business and College of Osteopathic Medicine, and the Michigan Osteopathic Association, the Healthcare Leadership Academy: Business Strategy for a Changing Landscape is a leadership program for existing and emerging healthcare leaders, including physicians and clinicians. The program focuses on developing participants’ knowledge of value-driven care delivery and financing models; cultivating participants’ decision-making, conflict management, team building, communication and negotiating skills; and helping participants understand their leadership strengths and weaknesses and coaching to expand their skills.

Registration is open for the Healthcare Leadership Academy: Business Strategy for a Changing Landscape, scheduled for Feb. 22 and 23 at the Grand Traverse Resort & Spa, Acme, and March 18 through 20 at the James B. Henry Center for Executive Development, Lansing. Details about the modules, faculty and registration are available online. Members with questions should contact Erin Steward at the MHA.
