David BestDavid Best, DO
David Best, DO received his board certification in family medicine in 2005 and addiction medicine in 2014. He became a fellow with the American Board of Addiction Medicine in 2019. He has been treating patients suffering from opioid use disorder since early 2005. He received his medical degree from Des Moines University - Osteopathic Medical Center in 2002 and completed his osteopathic residency at Garden City Hospital in 2005. As a National Health Service Corps Scholar he worked for the Bellaire Family Health Center from 2005-2012. Since 2012 Dr. Best has been in private practice, with his current office in Traverse City, MI.

Dr. Best has served as a member of the MOA Board of Trustees since May 2014 and is currently the Secretary-Treasurer of the MOA and a member of the MOA opioid safety task force. He was a member of the Michigan Association of Osteopathic Family Physicians (MAOFP) from 2007-2015. He served as president of the MAOFP from 2013-2014. He has been on the board of the Northern Michigan Osteopathic Association since 2015 and served as that organization’s president from 2015-2017.

Dr. Best has presented on the topic of opioid safety and opioid use disorder on a national, state and local level since 2011. He has been involved with medical conference planning and speaking since 2009. He has been a strong advocate for increased access for patients to receive the standard of care treatment for opioid use disorder. He has written resolutions to eliminate prior authorization restrictions on buprenorphine maintenance treatment. Those resolutions were passed at the House of Delegates for the Michigan Osteopathic Association (MOA) and the America Osteopathic Association in 2015.
